Barbara Crawford, Appli-Felting (Room-104-2.5 hours)
Join Barbara in this wonderful technique of appli –felting--combing appliqué and needle felting and adding it to garments. Create 3-dimensional appliqués to add to or build on to the garment itself. Embellish with hand embroidery, adding buttons, yarns, and ribbons. It’s a great way to get back to the basics in our lives with handwork, practicing with hand embroidery or even learning some hand embroidery if you haven’t done it before. The class will also go into detail on making things permanent on your clothing as well Kit fee is $20 includes: needles, foam bases, wool rovings, wool felts, yarns, threads, ribbons, buttons, perle cotton and needle, patterns and more. Find out what every homeowner should know……..a basic understanding of the main electrical system in your home!
Kelly Dilli: Kelly was trained as an industrial electrician and served a 4-year apprenticeship program at Ford Motor Company from 1996 until the plant closed in 2006. At that time she started Lady Electric, LLC and has been performing residential repair and installation ever since. She teaches Basic Electricity classes at St. Charles Community College and Missouri Women In Trades.
Barbara Crawford, There’s a Fabric Designer in You
(Room-Jr. Ballroom B)
Get ready for another play date with Barbara, she will guide you through the process of designing your own fabric pieces using all kinds of fun stamps, stencils, dyes, paints and faux chenille to add texture quickly and create her new reversible purse in the classroom . She will create all kinds of groovy prints by removing the color to create a printed fabric. She will be removing color using discharge paste and a steam iron, adding new colors using paints and dyes , not only to create your very own one of kind fabric pieces but to create a palette of designs for needle felting as well. Both flat surface and dimensional demos will be included . Barbara will have a sewing machine on hand to demonstrate using Faux Chenille as another dimension to add on, and silk threads for needle felting appliques that can be added. The reversible purse is a quick sew once the fabric has been designed. Barbara will also have clothing items for display, showcasing these techniques. (Class Fee: $8)
Allyce King, Sew You Want to be a Fashion Designer (Room-Jr. Ballroom C)
Have you ever thought about becoming a fashion designer? Dreamt of working for a high-end designer brand? Thinking about going to fashion design school? Or, starting your own line of clothing? Then this seminar is for you! Allyce King, a designer for the DIYStyle sewing pattern line with McCall’s and her own Allyce King Designs collection will share what it takes, and how to prepare for design training. In this program you will learn what skills are required of a designer including trend forecasting, figure sketching, fashion illustrations, sewing techniques, and market research. Allyce will also bring lots of the items created while in design school and now her current collection for you to get the inside view of how a designer works. Tools of the trade will be discussed as well as how to get started on the “sewing path” to being a designer! (Class Fee: $8)

Handbags are the rage and you need more than one. Discover how easy it is to make bags with character to fit your special needs. Whether making a cute evening bag, holder for CD’s, or large carryall for everyday, there are tricks of the trade. Padded shoulder straps, chain application, corded piping, sew-in magnetic snaps, bag feet, and under construction essentials are some of the basics. There are tips for proper positioning of creative design for all styles of bags. Use handbags as a palette to play with your sewing machine while creating bags uniquely your own. Linda McGehee, Kaleidoscopes for Printable Fabric (Room-Jr. Ballroom B)
As a child, it was fun to play with kaleidoscopes and watch the different designs evolve. A twist of the wrist and the design was gone forever! Today, it is easy to create kaleidoscopes with your own photography. By using different template shapes, you’ll marvel at the works of art that can be created to print on fabric or paper. Use the kaleidoscope as a base for further thread embellishment, build a project with the kaleidoscope as a focal point, or piece it into a block for a quilted project. Learn what to look for in pictures and how to take different pictures for kaleidoscopes; and determine the best fabric and printer for the project. This could be another creative addiction!
